"Cannot open picture" error message when you try to open a file that has the .mix file name extension in Picture It! 2002 (837877)

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Picture It! 2002, when you try to open a file that has the .mix file name extension and was created in an earlier version of Microsoft Picture It!, you may receive an error message that is similar to the following:

Cannot Open Picture filename
Picture It! cannot open this file. It uses effects that are not supported by this version of Picture It!.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs on some files that have the .mix file name extension that were created in an earlier version of Picture It!.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, use a program that can read the .mix file, such as Microsoft Word.

Note If you do not have another program that will open files that have the .mix file name extension, you may have to reinstall your earlier version of Picture It!, and then save the file in another format.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, save the file in another format before you open the file in Picture It! 2002 or in later versions of Picture It!.

Note the layered objects that the MIX format preserves will be flattened into a single picture.
