You cannot start a host instance from the BizTalk Server 2004 BizTalk administration console (837856)

SYMPTOMS

When you use the Microsoft BizTalk administration console to start a host instance in Microsoft BizTalk Server 2004, the host instance may not start. When this problem occurs, an error message that is similar to the following appears in the application log on your BizTalk Server computer:

Note In this error message, BizTalkServer is a placeholder for the actual name of your BizTalk Server computer.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if the Disable new message publication check box is selected in the properties of all of the message boxes that are associated with the BizTalk Server Group that contains the Host instance.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, enable the new message publication setting in the properties of at least one of the BizTalk Server message boxes that are associated with the BizTalk Server Group that contains the Host instance:
  1. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Microsoft BizTalk Server 2004, and then click BizTalk Server Administration.
  2. In the BizTalk administration console, expand Microsoft BizTalk Server 2004 (local), and then click MessageBoxes.
  3. In the right pane, right-click one of the message boxes that is associated with the BizTalk Server Group that contains the Host instance, and then click Properties.
  4. In the message box Properties dialog box, click to clear the Disable new message publication check box.
You can now start the BizTalk host instance.
