How to configure dial-out access for clients in ISA Server 2004 (837838)

INTRODUCTION

This article describes how to configure Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server 2004 to use a dial-up connection for Internet access. This configuration enables dial-out Internet access for Winsock Proxy clients, Microsoft Firewall clients, and SecureNAT clients.

Configure a dial-up entry on the ISA Server computer

To configure ISA Server 2004 to use a modem or a virtual private network (VPN) connection to connect to an upstream network, follow these steps:

1. Create a dial-up connection or a VPN connection on the computer where ISA Server is installed. This computer can be running Microsoft Windows 2000 Server or Microsoft Windows Server 2003.
2. Start the ISA Server Management tool.
3. Expand ServerName where ServerName is the name of your ISA Server computer.
4. Expand Configuration, and then click Networks.
5. In the right pane, click the Tasks tab, and then click Specify Dial-up Preferences.
6. Click Allow automatic dialing to this network, click External in the list of networks, and then click to select the Configure this dial-up connection as the default gateway check box if you want to use this connection as your default route to the Internet.
7. Click Select, click the dial-up connection that you want ISA Server to use in the Network Dial-up Connection list, and then click OK.
8. Click Set Account, type the account credentials for the dial-up connection, and then click OK.
9. Click OK, click Apply to save your changes and to update the firewall policy, and then click OK.
10. Verify that a default gateway is not configured on any one of the internal network adapters on the ISA Server computer.
