"Microsoft Project cannot log you on automatically using your Windows user account" error message when you log on to Project Server 2002 (837652)

SYMPTOMSWhen you try to log on to Microsoft Project Server 2002 by
using Microsoft Project Professional 2002, you may receive the following error
message: Microsoft Project cannot log you on
automatically using your Windows user account. You need to change the account
in your profile, or contact your Microsoft Project Server administrator to
check if your Windows user account exists and is a valid account on the
Microsoft Project Server. (5003) This issue may occur if you try to
log on to Project Server 2002 from a computer that is located in a workgroup or
from a computer that is located in a non-trusted domain. CAUSEThis issue may occur if the ProjectServer virtual directory
in Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) is configured to use Anonymous
access and is not configured to use Integrated Windows
authentication.RESOLUTIONTo resolve this issue, configure the ProjectServer virtual
directory in IIS to use Integrated Windows authentication instead of Anonymous
access. To do so, follow these steps:
- Start Internet Services Manager.
- Expand
ServerName, and then expand the Web
site that you want to configure--for example, expand Default Web
Site.
- Right-click the ProjectServer virtual
directory, and then click Properties.
- Click the Directory Security tab, and then
click Edit under Anonymous access and authentication
control.
- In the Authentication Methods dialog box,
click to clear the Anonymous access check box, click to select
the Integrated Windows authentication check box, and then
click OK.
- Click OK, and then quit Internet Services
Manager.
- Restart IIS. To do so, follow these steps:
- Click Start, and then click
Run.
- In the Open box, type
cmd, and then click OK.
- At the command prompt, type
iisreset, and then press ENTER.
- Type exit, and then press ENTER to
quit Command Prompt.
