You receive an "Error 80072EF7" error message when you connect to the Windows Update Web site or to the Microsoft Update Web site (836980)

SYMPTOMSWhen you connect to the Microsoft Windows Update Web site or to the Microsoft Update Web site, you may receive an error message that is similar to the following:
Error 80072EF7 CAUSEThis issue may occur if the default gateway settings that are configured for the network adapter that is installed on your computer are incorrect. RESOLUTIONTo resolve this issue, verify the IP address settings that are configured for your network adapter, including the IP address of the default gateway. To do so: - Click Start, and then click Run.
- In the Open box, type winipcfg, and then click OK.
- In the Ethernet Adapter Information dialog box, click your network adapter, and then click More Info.
- Verify that your network adapter is configured with the correct IP settings, including the correct IP address in the Default Gateway box.
Note You may have to contact your network administrator to obtain the appropriate IP settings for your network adapter.
