Program stops responding when you try to access an LDAP server by using Windows 2000 (836801)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Server
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server

SYMPTOMS

When you try to access a multithreaded program that is using the LDAP library WLDAP32.DLL (or dependent technology like ADSI), the program stops responding.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the LDAP library uses locks to help to protect its connection list, its request list, and its socket list. Different code paths can lead to different lock acquisition order causing a deadlock.
