Event ID 1194 may be logged after you restart an Exchange 2000 server (836565)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Exchange 2000 Enterprise Server
SYMPTOMSAfter you restart a computer that is running Microsoft Exchange 2000 Enterprise Server, the following error message may be logged in the application event log:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: MSExchangeIS
Event Category: General
Event ID: 1194
Description:
Accept clients on external interface MAPIRPC failed with error 0x4b1.CAUSEThis problem may occur when both of the following conditions are true: - Multiple mailbox stores are configured on your Exchange 2000 server.
- The mailbox stores mount and then try to register with the Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service at the same time.
When you restart the Exchange 2000 server, the first mailbox store registers with the RPC service successfully. Subsequent mailbox stores try to register with the RPC service but cannot because the first mailbox store has already registered. STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section of this article.MORE INFORMATIONAlthough event ID 1194 is logged to the application event log, you can ignore this message. A single mailbox store registration is all that you have to have for subsequent mailbox stores to mount. Although this process may log an error message in the application event log, all mailbox stores mount successfully.
