"Windows User Account name you entered is invalid" error when you try to specify a user or a group name in Systems Management Server 2003 (836547)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to specify a new user or a new group in the Access Accounts properties of a package, you receive the following error message:
The Windows User Account name you entered is not valid. Please enter a user name of the form: Domain\User

CAUSE

This problem may occur if the user name or the group name is more than 20 characters.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Microsoft Systems Management Server 2003 service pack that contains this hotfix.
