An "Event ID 2" error message is logged to the application event log when you synchronize the Enterprise Resource Pool with Active Directory in Project Server 2003 (836542)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Office Project Server 2003
  • Microsoft Project Web Access

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Office Project Server 2003, when you synchronize the Enterprise Resource Pool with Active Directory, the following error message is logged to the application event log:
Type: Error
Source: Microsoft Project Server Tracing Eventlog Provider
Category: None
Event ID: 2
User: NT AUTHORITY\LOCAL SERVICE
Computer: ComputerName
Component: AD Connector
File: AutoADProcess
Line: -1
Description:
AD Res Pool Sync - failed to issue the PDS Resource Deactivate request

CAUSE

This behavior may occur if one or both of the following conditions are true:
  • You try to deactivate a user in Project Server 2003.
  • The synchronization operation does not successfully update the Active Directory Globally-Unique Identifier (AD GUID) for a user.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, turn off the Clear User AD GUID option for the appropriate user, and then synchronize the Enterprise Resource Pool with Active Directory. To do so, follow these steps:
  1. Log on as an administrator to Microsoft Office Project Web Access 2003.
  2. Turn off the Clear User AD GUID option for the user. To do so, follow these steps:
    1. Click Admin. On the Administration overview page, click Manage users and groups.
    2. On the Users page, click the user who you want to modify, and then click Modify user.
    3. On the Modify User page, click to clear the Clear User AD GUID check box.

Note The Clear User AD GUID check box is only selected for Project Server 2003 users who have an AD GUID and who use Microsoft Windows authentication.
    4. Click Save Changes.
  3. Synchronize the Enterprise Resource Pool with Active Directory. To do so, follow these steps:
    1. Click Admin. On the Administration overview page, click Server configuration.
    2. On the Server configuration page, in the Active Directory Group to Synchronize box, type the name of Active Directory group that you want to synchronize.
    3. Click Update only when specified, and then click Update Now.
    4. Press F5 to refresh the Web page, and then click Save Changes.

Sometimes you may have to perform the synchronization operation two times. To perform the synchronization operation again, repeat steps b and c.
  4. Click Admin. On the Administration overview page, click Manage users and groups.
  5. On the Users page, click the user, and then click Modify user.
  6. On the Modify User page, verify that either one or both of the following conditions are true, depending on your situation:
    • The Clear User AD GUID check box is selected.
    • The account status of the user is set to Inactive.
