You receive a "failed to create Configuration database" error message when you run the BizTalk Server 2004 Configuration Wizard (836455)

SYMPTOMS

When you run the Microsoft BizTalk Server 2004 Configuration Wizard, you may receive an error message that is similar to the following:

Failed to create Configuration database "BizTalkMgmtDb" on server "SQLServer".
Invalid column name 'productminor'.
SQL script file: "C:\Program Files\Microsoft BizTalk Server 2004\Schema\\BTS_Version_Logic.sql"
SQL command batch: "CREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[adm_Query_BizTalkDBVersion]
@BizTalkDBName nvarchar(64)

CAUSE

This behavior may occur if your BizTalk Server databases are located on a computer that is running Microsoft SQL Server and that uses a case sensitive collation. The error occurs because BizTalk Server 2004 does not support the installation of its databases on a computer that is running SQL Server and that uses a case sensitive collation.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, install your BizTalk Server 2004 databases on a computer that is running SQL Server and that does not use a case sensitive collation.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
