You receive a "0x800710DC (ERROR_RESOURCE_NOT_PRESENT)" error message when you perform a scheduled backup by using the NTBackup program (836425)


The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition

SYMPTOMS

When you use the NTBackup program to perform a scheduled backup of files to tape on a computer that is running Microsoft Windows Server 2003, the backup may not be completed successfully and NTBackup.exe may fail, and you may receive the following error message:
0x800710DC(ERROR_RESOURCE_NOT_PRESENT)

CAUSE

This issue occurs if there is not sufficient free space available on the tape media to complete the backup.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, use one of the following methods:
  • Add another tape media that has sufficient free space for the backup, if one is available.
  • Use a tape library to perform an unattended tape backup that spans more than one tape.
