This article describes how to set up recurring 401(k) mutual fund payroll deductions in Microsoft Money.

To set up recurring payroll deductions in the form of mutual funds, follow these steps:
  1. In Money, click Bills & Deposits.
  2. On the "Manage scheduled bills and deposits" screen, click New, and then click Investment Purchase.
  3. On the "Do you want to keep track of your deductions?" screen, click Yes, track taxes and other deductions, and then click Next.
  4. On the "Does your paycheck include contributions to a retirement account?" screen, click Yes, and then click Next.
  5. On the "Which account receives the contributions?" screen, type the account that receives the automatic deductions or click the appropriate account in the list box, and then click Next.
  6. On the "Does your paycheck include contributions to a savings account?" screen, click Yes or click No, and then click Next.
  7. Click Next.
  8. Click the Deductions Before Taxes tab or click the Deductions After Taxes tab, whichever is appropriate.
  9. Under Category, click Buy Investment/CD in the list box.
  10. In the Buy Investment dialog box, type your financial information, and then click OK.
  11. When you finish typing your wage, deductions, and tax information, click Done.
  12. On the "Create a recurring deposit" screen, click This is a fixed amount.

    If any information that you entered varies from paycheck to paycheck, click Estimate because the amount varies.
  13. After you type all the required information, click OK.
