Microsoft SQL Server 2000 fixes are distributed as one downloadable file. Because the fixes are cumulative, each new release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous SQL Server 2000 fix release.

SYMPTOMS

When you run a DELETE statement that has a join condition on an instance of SQL Server and the statement execution plan that is generated for the DELETE statement uses the nested loop join strategy, you may receive an error message that is similar to the following:
Server: Msg 625, Level 20, State 1, Procedure Procedure Name, Line 376
Cannot retrieve row from page (25:2464) by RID because the slotid (1197518160) is not valid.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, run the DELETE statement by using a query hint to use a hash join as the join strategy of the query. To do this, include the OPTION (HASH JOIN) clause in the query, and then run the query.

This problem was first corrected in Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 4.
