You cannot select the Turn Off Computer dialog box elements with the keyboard (835358)

SYMPTOMS

When you click Turn off computer on the Welcome screen after you start up your computer, the Turn Off Computer dialog box ignores all keyboard input, specifically it ignores the S key for Standby, the U key for Turn Off Computer, and the R key for Restart.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because the keyboard does not have focus on any one of the Welcome screen elements after the computer starts. If you use the mouse to click Turn off computer, the Turn Off Computer dialog will not include any one of the standard keyboard input selections.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use the TAB key to select all screen elements. With this method, you do not use the mouse to select Turn off computer. Instead, you must use the TAB key, and then press ENTER to display the Turn Off Computer dialog box. When you use this method, you can use the appropriate letter keys to activate the three dialog elements: Standby, Turn Off Computer, and Restart.

The TAB key also selects these elements and Cancel. When you select an element with the TAB key, you press ENTER to activate the element.

WORKAROUND

After you click Turn off computer, you can use the TAB key to select each of the Turn Off Computer dialog box elements. After you select an element, press the ENTER key to activate the element.
