SYMPTOMS
If more than 1,000 users exist in Active Directory, either in a single domain or in multiple domains in the same forest, some user records may not be available for you to add through User Manager in Microsoft Business Solutions - CRM 1.0 or in Microsoft CRM 1.2.
Additionally, you receive the following error message when you try to access User Manager or when you add users in User Manager:
An error occurred while retrieving the list of users in Active Directory. For more information, contact your system administrator.
RESOLUTION
For Microsoft CRM 1.2, a registry update is required. See the Microsoft CRM 1.2 section. For Microsoft CRM 1.0, a hotfix is available from Microsoft. See the Microsoft CRM 1.0 section.
Microsoft CRM 1.2
Warning If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.Microsoft CRM 1.2 users do not have to apply the hotfix that is listed here. Instead, Microsoft CRM 1.2 users must follow these steps modify the registry to display more than 1,000 in User Manager.
To display all users in User Manager if more than 1,000 users or domains exist in Active Directory, you must add a new registry value. To do this, follow these steps:
- Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK. Registry Editor opens.
- Locate and then click the following subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MSCRM
- Click Edit, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
- Change the name by typing UMPaging.
- Double-click the new name and set the value by typing 0. Then close Registry Editor.
- Restart the Microsoft CRM Security service by following these steps on the Microsoft CRM server.
Note This action disconnects all Microsoft CRM users. Users will remain disconnected until you restart the Microsoft CRM Security service.- Click Start, click Run, and then type Net Stop "Microsoft CRM Security Service".
- After the Microsoft CRM Security Service has stopped, click Start, click Run, and then type Net Start "Microsoft CRM Security Service".
Note If the registry does not contain a
UMPaging value, or if the UMPaging value is set to 1, Microsoft CRM will display a maximum of 1,000 users in Microsoft CRM User Manager.
