An SQL query of a resource's timesheet returns a value that is less than the actual work hours that appear in Microsoft Project Web Access (835172)


The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

If you use MSP_WEB_ASSIGNMENTS in an SQL statement in Microsoft SQL Analyzer to query against the resource's timesheet directly, the query may return a value that is less than the value that appears on the resource's timesheet in Microsoft Project Web Access.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the timesheet may not calculate the Actual Work field hours correctly, and this may affect the Sync to Protected Actual feature in Microsoft Office Project Professional 2003.

RESOLUTION

This problem was first fixed in a hotfix that is now contained in a service pack. If you installed the latest Project Server 2003 service pack, you do not have to install the hotfix.

Important Applying this hotfix will prevent new data from exhibiting the behavior that is described in the "Symptoms" section.

After you apply this hotfix, see the "More Information" section to correct the data that exhibits this problem.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
This problem was first corrected in Project Server 2003 Service Pack 1.

MORE INFORMATION

To correct the data that exhibits the problem that is described in the "Symptoms" section, follow these steps:
  1. Install the hotfix that is described in the "Resolution" section.
  2. Turn off the Managed Time Periods feature in Microsoft Office Project Server 2003. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Log on to Microsoft Project Web Access as an administrator.
    2. On the Admin menu, click Customize.
    3. In the Time Period Settings area, click Non-Managed Periods.
    4. Click Save Changes.
  3. Log on to Project Professional 2003 as a project manager.
  4. Open your project plan.
  5. On the Collaborate menu, click Republish Assignments.
  6. In the Republish Assignments dialog box, click Overwrite Actual Work Entered by Resources, and then click OK.
  7. After your project plan has been republished, turn on the Managed Time Periods feature in Project Server 2003. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Log on to Microsoft Project Web Access as an administrator.
    2. On the Admin menu, click Customize.
    3. In the Time Period Settings area, click Managed Periods.
    4. Click Save Changes.
