Video export from a portable computer to a DV camera is not successful (834682)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
- Microsoft Windows XP Professional
SYMPTOMSWhen you try to export video from your portable computer, or from any other battery-operated computer, to your digital video (DV) camera, the export operation may not be completed successfully. CAUSEThis issue may occur when all the following conditions are true: - Your computer is battery-operated.
Note: A portable computer may continue to use battery power even when it is connected to an electrical outlet. - Your computer is configured to use the Portable/Laptop power scheme.
- Your DV camera is connected to your computer through an IEEE 1394 cable.
Note An IEEE 1394 cable is also known as a FireWire cable.
This issue occurs because the computer is configured to save power by putting certain processor functions into standby. This functionality may cause a buffer under-run. WORKAROUNDTo work around this issue, configure your computer so that it does not use a power-saving setting. To do this, follow these steps: - Click Start, click Control Panel, click Performance and Maintenance, and then click Power Options.
- On the Power Schemes tab, click Always on under Power schemes.
- Click OK.
Note Your computer may have third-party power management software installed. See the product documentation for your computer if you continue to experience the issue that is described in the "Symptoms" section or if you cannot modify the power management settings by following these steps.
