"The compressed (zipped) folder is invalid or corrupted" error message occurs when you open a compressed folder in a Word document (834465)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to open a compressed (.zip) folder that has been inserted into a Microsoft Word document or a WordPad document, you may receive the following error message:
The Compressed (zipped) Folder is invalid or corrupted.
If Word has a security level setting of medium or high, you will receive the following warning message when you try to open the compressed folder: You are about to activate an embedded object that may contain viruses or be otherwise harmful to your computer. It is important to be certain that it is from a trustworthy source. Do you want to continue? If you click Yes, you then receive the error message that is listed earlier in this article.
