You cannot use RUNDLL32 to install printer drivers on a remote computer (834423)



The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

When you use the rundll32 printui.dll,PrintUIEntry /c command to install printers to a remote computer, you may receive the following error message:
The printer driver you selected is either not compatible with your current version of Windows, or it may not be available. Select a compatible driver from the list, or contact your administrator for help.
This problem occurs even if the correct printer drivers are available on the remote computer.

CAUSE

This problem occurs after you install the Microsoft Terminal Server hotfix that is described in Microsoft Knowledge Base article 324446 to your Microsoft Windows 2000-based server. This hotfix requires that you install a printer driver on both the local computer and the remote computer.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, you must install the printer drivers on the local computer before you try to install the printer drivers on a remote computer.
