FIX: You may receive the "-2147217900" error message when the LIKE clause contains a special Japanese character in the Korean version of Microsoft Windows 2000 in Visual Basic for Windows 6.0 (834399)

SYMPTOMS

When a Microsoft Visual Basic for Windows 6.0 application uses ActiveX Data Objects (ADO) and Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0 Provider to connect to a Microsoft Access 2000 database, a problem may occur. You can use the SELECT statement that has a LIKE clause. However, if the LIKE clause contains a special Japanese character, such as ?, you may receive the following error message:
-2147217900
This problem occurs when you use the Korean version of Microsoft Windows 2000.

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that this article describes. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.
