You receive an error message when you perform a Purge Revision operation by using MCMS Site Builder (834324)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to perform a Purge Revision operation on your Microsoft Content Management Server (MCMS) computer by using Site Builder, you may receive the following error message:
Error: 4005 Description: The XML parser could not parse the tag it was given.

Recommended Action: The ODBC data source may be incorrectly configured, the database may not be running, or there may be incorrect data in the database.
Before you receive this error message, the MCMS Site Builder client tool may stop responding for a long time. Sometimes you may not receive the error message, and the MCMS Site Builder client tool may stop responding completely.

CAUSE

This error is associated with a timeout issue that occurs during the execution of the PurgeRevisionByDate stored procedure. If a Purge Revision operation has not been performed regularly, many revisions may have to be purged. If many revisions must be purged, the stored procedure may time out.

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Microsoft Content Management Server 2001 service pack that contains this hotfix.
