SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server, the information store may unexpectedly stop responding, and the databases may appear to dismount. Clients may not be able to connect to the server.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if the DSAccess component incorrectly calculates the timeout value of a Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) session. The DSAccess component incorrectly uses milliseconds instead of seconds when it uses the ldap_set_option function to set the LDAP_OPT_SEND_TIMEOUT value. For example, instead of setting the LDAP_OPT_SEND_TIMEOUT value to 30 seconds, the DSAccess component sets the LDAP_OPT_SEND_TIMEOUT value to 30,000 seconds.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 service pack that contains this hotfix.
