You cannot move a Legacy Client to another site in Systems Management Server 2003 (833862)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Systems Management Server 2003

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) 2003, Legacy Clients cannot join multiple sites. Each Legacy Client can belong to only one site.

If you try to use the /F command-line switch with the Systems Management Installation Wizard (SMSman.exe) to move a client to another site, the following message is logged in the Wnmanual.log file on the client: /F option specified; this is not supported in this release.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the /F switch was removed from SMS 2003. The /F switch caused a run-time error in the Advertised Programs Monitor (Smsmon32.exe) in the pre-release version of SMS 2003. The run-time error occurred when the Systems Management Installation Wizard was advertised as a package to clients. The error occurred because the Advertised Programs Monitor was running in a different user context than the SMS client component launcher (Launch32.exe).
