Nothing happens in a Solution Accelerator for Proposals document when you click Edit or when you click Remove assignment (833688)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Office Word 2003
  • Microsoft Office Solution Accelerator for Proposals

SYMPTOMS

If you create a new document that contains a table in a Microsoft Office Solution Accelerator for Proposals document, when you click Edit or you click Remove assignment on the Document Actions task pane, nothing happens.

Note You expect that either the Assign Selected Text dialog box, or the Confirm removal dialog box appears, as appropriate.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if there is no text (or spaces) before or after the table in an assigned section.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, add some text before or after the table in the assigned section.

MORE INFORMATION

When you assign a section that includes a table that has no text before or after the table, Microsoft Office Word 2003 may automatically adjust the size of the section by moving the beginning or the ending XML section tag inside the table.

When you click the section name in the Document Actions task pane, all the text in the section is selected. Because all the contents of the table cells are selected, Word automatically extends the selection to cover the whole table, past the end of the section.

The Edit function and the Remove assignment function of your Solution Accelerator for Proposals document will only work when the selection is completely in a section (to prevent accidentally editing multiple sections at the same time). Therefore, in this situation, the Edit function and the Remove assignment function are not available.

This problem may occur if you follow the steps in this example:
  1. In your Solution Accelerator for Proposals library, you create a new Solution Accelerator for Proposals document.
  2. In Word 2003, you press ENTER to create a new blank line.

Note You have two blank lines (paragraph marks) in the document. To view the paragraph marks in your document, on the Tools menu, click Options, and then on the View tab, click to select the Paragraph marks check box.
  3. With the insertion point before the second paragraph mark, you insert a table (on the Table menu, point to Insert, and then click Table).
  4. You then select the paragraph mark before the table, you extend the selection to include the table, and you also extend the select to include the paragraph mark after the table.
  5. On the Document Actions task pane, you click Assign a new section.
  6. In the Assign Selected Text dialog box, you assign the section, and then click OK.
  7. You select the section (click the section name in the Sections list box on the Document Actions task pane).
  8. On the Document Actions task pane, you click either Edit or Remove assignment.
