"The text you pasted contains invalid XML markup" message when you insert or you paste text into an Accelerator for Proposals document in Word 2003 (833657)

SYMPTOMS

When you insert or paste text into a section of a Microsoft Office Solution Accelerator for Proposals document that contains XML tags in Microsoft Office Word 2003, you receive the following message:Invalid XML Insert

The text you pasted contains invalid XML markup.
This content would make the document XML invalid.

Click OK to remove invalid markup.
Click Cancel to cancel the paste operation.If you click Cancel, text may still be pasted into your Accelerator for Proposals document.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if text (for example, "This is a test") is contained outside XML tags as in the following example:

This is a test
<ProjectManagement>This is a different test</ProjectManagement>

and you do either of the following in your PAccelerator for Proposals document:
  • You choose a Accelerator for Proposals document from your content library that contains XML tags, and then you click Insert to insert the document in a section of your current Accelerator for Proposals document. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Edit your Accelerator for Proposals document in Word 2003.
    2. On the Document Actions task pane, click Library.
    3. In the Search area of the Document Actions task pane, type part of the file name that you want to find, and then click Start/stop searching.

      Note You may have to select the library that contains the document (for example, click to select the All Libraries check box).
    4. In the Search Results list, select the document that you want, and then click Insert.
  • You copy text that contains XML tags in a Accelerator for Proposals document, and then paste the text into a section of your current Accelerator for Proposals document.

    To copy the text that you want, select the text. On the Edit menu, click Copy.

    To paste the text into your Accelerator for Proposals document, put the insertion point where you want the text to appear, and then click Paste on the Edit menu.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, delete the text that was incorrectly inserted or pasted into your Accelerator for Proposals document.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section of this article.
