The Win32_Battery WMI class does not report the EstimatedChargeRemaining attribute correctly on a Windows XP-based portable computer (833600)

SYMPTOMS

When you query the Win32_Battery Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) class on your Microsoft Windows XP-based portable computer, the EstimatedChargeRemaining attribute does not appear in the list of returned attributes.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the EstimatedChargeRemaining attribute always has a value of NULL in Windows XP.

RESOLUTION

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2.

The Win32_Battery WMI class represents a battery that is connected to the computer. The EstimatedChargeRemaining attribute reports an estimate of the percentage of the full charge that is remaining. In Windows XP, the EstimatedChargeRemaining attribute always has a value of NULL. In Microsoft Windows 2000, the EstimatedChargeRemaining attribute is correct.
