You cannot automatically rename a new folder on a mapped network drive on a Windows XP-based computer (833424)

SYMPTOMS

When you use a Microsoft Windows XP-based computer to map a drive letter to a network share, and then create a new folder by right-clicking in the same network share window where you created the new folder, you cannot automatically rename the new folder. To rename the new folder, you must right-click the folder and then click Rename.

RESOLUTION

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section of this article. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2.
