Document Actions task pane disappears and you receive an "Internal Error" error message when you merge two Office Solution Accelerator for Proposals documents (833031)


The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

When you click Save (or Save As) on the File menu when you edit your Microsoft Office Solution Accelerator for Proposals document in Microsoft Office Word 2003, and you choose to save the file with the file name of an existing file, you will be prompted with the following message:The file filename already exists.
Do you want to:
* Replace existing file.
* Save changes with a different name.
* Merge changes into existing file.If you click Merge changes into existing file, the Document Actions task pane may disappear, and you may receive the following error message:
Internal error

CAUSE

This issue occurs because Word uses complex algorithms to merge documents. When you choose to merge your Office Solution Accelerator for Proposals document (*.xml) with an existing document, the algorithms may not merge the XML documents correctly, and may remove the XML Schema from the merged document.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, reject the changes to the document, and then reattach the Microsoft Office Solution Accelerator for Proposals Schema Library. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Reject the changes in your Office Solution Accelerator for Proposals document.

    To do this, click in a section, click Reject Change/Delete Comment on the Reviewing toolbar, and then click Reject All Changes in Document.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Templates and Add-Ins.
  3. On the XML Schema tab, click to select the Microsoft Office Solution Accelerator for Proposals check box.
  4. Click OK to close the Templates and Add-Ins dialog box.

    The Document Actions task pane should now reattach to your Office Solution Accelerator for Proposals document.
  5. On the File menu, click Save on the.

    If you receive the following message, you have invalid XML and you must correct the problem before you can save your Office Solution Accelerator for Proposals document:This document cannot be saved as XML because its structure violates the rules set by the schema. In order to solve this problem you must either:
    - save as a Word document
    - or click Cancel, fix the validation errors in the document, and then save as XMLTo correct this problem, follow these steps:
    1. Click Cancel to the message that is listed in step 5.
    2. On the Document Actions task pane, click Options and Help.
    3. Click Toggle XML tags to turn on the XML tags in your document.
    4. Correct any sections that are tagged incorrectly tagged.
    5. After you make the corrections to your section tags, click Save on the File menu.

      If you continue to receive the message that is listed in step 5, repeat steps 5a through 5e until the file saves without error.
