Details about the Exchange Update for Entourage X and for MAPI (832960)

INTRODUCTION

Microsoft Entourage X does not support the use of Messaging Application Program Interface (MAPI) connections. However, with the Microsoft Exchange Update for Entourage, you can access many of the Microsoft Exchange Contact features and many of the Calendar features by using World Wide Web Distributed Authoring and Versioning (WebDAV) and Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP).

After you install the Exchange Update, Entourage has the following features:

Entourage uses WebDAV to access Calendar information on the Exchange server.
Entourage uses LDAP for the global address list.
Entourage uses Internet Mail Access Protocol (IMAP) for e-mail folders.
Entourage uses Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) to send e-mail.

The Exchange Update also adds an Exchange account setup option. The Exchange account setup option simplifies the configuration of the features that are listed earlier in this article. The Exchange account that you configure by using the Exchange account setup option is not a MAPI account. It is an IMAP account with additional features for integration with Exchange.
