How to download and install the update on a single computer
If you installed Project 2003 from a CD-ROM, you have the
following two options:
- Use the Microsoft Office Updates Web site to automatically
install all the latest updates that include all the available service packs,
security patches, and updates.
- Install only the Project 2003 Update: KB832887 by following
the steps that are described later in this article.
Note Microsoft recommends that you install the update by using the
Office Updates Web site. The Office Updates Web site detects your particular
installation of Microsoft Project and prompts you to install exactly what you
must have to make sure that your Project installation is completely up-to-date.

To have the Office Updates Web site detect the updates
that you must install on your computer, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
After detection is complete, you receive a list of recommended
updates for your approval. Click
Start Installation to
complete the process.
Install only the Project 2003 Update: KB832887
To download and install the update, follow these steps:
- Download the update.
The following
file is available for download from the Microsoft Download

Microsoft scanned this file for viruses. Microsoft used the most
current virus-detection software that was available on the date that the file
was posted. The file is stored on security-enhanced servers that help to
prevent any unauthorized changes to the file.
- Click Open to start the download and the
installation of the Project 2003 Update: KB832887.
- Click Yes to accept the license
agreement.
- Insert your Project 2003 CD-ROM if you are prompted to do
so, and then click OK.
- When you receive a message that indicates that the
installation was successful, click OK.
Note After you install the update, you cannot remove it. To revert to
an installation before you installed the update, you must remove Project 2003,
and then reinstall it from the original CD-ROM.
Administrative update
If you installed your Project 2003 product from a server location,
the server administrator must update the server location with the
administrative update and deploy that update to your computer.
If you
are the server administrator, follow these steps to download the administrative
update:
- In Microsoft Windows Explorer, create a folder on the C
drive, and then name the folder kb832887.
- Download the update.

installation file to the C:\kb832887 folder.

cmd, and then click OK.
- At the command prompt, type the following lines, and then
press ENTER after each line:

Note In this example, "language version" is the language identifier of
the installation file that you downloaded previously--for example, type the
following text: cd\kb832887
Project2003-KB832887-fullfile-ENU.exe /c /t:c:\kb832887
- Click Yes to accept the license
agreement.
- At the command prompt, type exit,
and then press ENTER to quit the command prompt.
- If you are familiar with the procedure for updating your
administrative installation, click Start, and then click
Run.
Type the following command in the
Open box: msiexec /a admin path\MSI file /p c:\kb832887\MSP file shortfilenames=true
In this command, admin
path is the path of your administrative installation point for
Project 2003 (for example, C:\Project2003), MSI file
is the .msi database package for the Project 2003 product, and MSP
file is the name of the administrative update (for example,
Project2003-KB832887-fullfile.msp).
Note You can append the /qb+ switch to the command line so that the Project 2003
Administrative Installation dialog box and the End User
License Agreement dialog box do not appear. - To deploy the update to the client workstations, click
Start, and then click Run.
Type the
following command in the Open box: msiexec /i admin path\MSI file reinstall=Feature List REINSTALLMODE=VOMU
In this command, admin
path is the path of your administrative installation point for
Project 2003 (for example, C:\Project2003), MSI file
is the MSI database package for the Project 2003 product, and
Feature List is the case-sensitive list of feature
names that must be reinstalled for the update. To install all the features, you
can use REINSTALL=ALL .

How to determine if the update is installed
The update contains updated versions of the following files:

To determine the version of Microsoft Project that is installed on
your computer, follow these steps.
Note Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the
following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your
product documentation to complete these steps.
- Click Start, and then click
Search.
- In the Search Results pane, click
All files and folders under Search Companion.
- In the All or part of the file name box,
type Winproj.exe, and then click
Search.
- In the list of files, right-click
Winproj.exe, and then click
Properties.
- On the Version tab, determine the version
of Microsoft Project that is installed on your computer.

computer, you receive the following error message when you try to install the
Project 2003 Update: KB832887:
This update has already
been applied or is included in an update that has already been
applied.

When you create a link in a master Project plan, your screen flashes or flickers

The Project 2003
Update: KB832887 fixes the following Project Professional 2003 issues that were

"Your action may result in actuals in this project becoming out of synch with the actuals updated from timesheets" message in Project Professional 2003
If you use Microsoft Project Server with the
Locked down
actuals option selected, you receive the following message, and you
cannot save the milestone as 100 percent complete when you update a milestone
task as 100 percent complete:Your action may result in
actuals in this project becoming out of synch with the actuals updated from
timesheets.
You can: sync actuals with the
Synch
actuals command on the
Tracking menu, or synch
actuals when you save the project.
When you submit the actual start date for a task in Microsoft Project Web Access the Project plan is not updated with the actual start date
When you submit the actual start date for a task in Project Web
Access, and you do not submit actual hours worked, the Project plan is not
updated with the actual start date.
Note This issue may also occur with the actual end date for a
task.
Outline codes are not collapsed by default when they are viewed in Project 2003
Outline codes that are created by automation calls to the Project
Data Service (PDS) are not collapsed by default when they are viewed in Project
2003.
A delay is incorrectly added to assigned tasks
When you click
Tracking - Sync to Protected
Actuals on the
Tools menu in your Project plan, a
delay is incorrectly added to assigned tasks.
When you create a custom formula for an Enterprise Project 2003 text field, delays may be entered between tasks
When you create a custom formula that uses a date field (such as
Status Date) for an Enterprise Project 2003 text field, and
you create the task, assign the resources to the task, and then level your
Project plan, delays may be entered between tasks.
