SYMPTOMS

When you press and hold the zero button on your set-top box remote control during the Identify Set-Top Remote step of the Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2004 First Run Wizard, you may receive the following error message:
Media Center is unable to access the code you selected. Please try a different code.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if your TV tuner card on your computer has been disabled or has been removed. You must have a TV tuner card enabled on your computer to correctly set up Media Center.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Media Center 2004.
