Windows XP Media Center Edition 2004 encounters an unknown error when you try to schedule an Advanced Recording (832842)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to schedule an Advanced Recording of a TV program in Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2004, you may receive an error message that the Recorder has encountered an unknown error, and that it was not successful in adding the recording to the list of Advanced Recordings.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if you download two different Program Guide listings in the same session of Media Center Edition 2004.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, restart your Windows Media Center-based computer. This will correctly reload the new Program Guide that you downloaded, and permit you to schedule an Advanced Recording.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section of this article.
