The Start Continuous Refresh command does not work correctly in East Asian versions of Visio Professional 2003 (832819)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Office Visio Professional 2003

SYMPTOMS

When you use the Start Continuous Refresh command in Microsoft Office Visio Professional 2003 to synchronize a drawing that represents a database table with the database, the command may not work correctly. When you right-click a blank space in the Visio Professional 2003 database drawing, and then click Start Continuous Refresh, you do not receive the expected message that prompts you to continue. As a result, the database drawing does not synchronize with the database.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because of an issue with the Start Continuous Refresh command in the East Asian versions of Visio Professional 2003.

Note East Asian versions of Visio Professional 2003 include Japanese, Chinese, and Korean.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, when you open a Visio Professional 2003 database drawing by using the Database Wizard, you can start the Drawing Monitor to synchronize a drawing with the database. When you use the Drawing Monitor, updates to the drawing and the database will synchronize when you click Refresh. You can also configure an automatic update interval. To start the Drawing Monitor, follow these steps:
  1. On the Tools menu, point to Add-Ons, point to Visio Extras, and then click Database Wizard.
  2. In the Database Wizard dialog box, click Next.
  3. Click Create a linked drawing or modify an existing one, and then click Next.
  4. Click Open an existing database drawing, and then click Next.
  5. Click Browse, locate the Visio drawing file, click the Visio drawing file, and then click Open.
  6. In the Choose the drawing page to modify list, click the drawing page that you want to modify, and then click Next.
  7. Click Finish, and then click OK to start the Drawing Monitor.
  8. To update the drawing page to match the database, in the Database Drawing Monitor dialog box, click the monitored drawing page that you want to update, and then click Refresh.
  9. If you want to, you can configure an automatic update interval to update the drawing page to match the database. To do so, follow these steps:
    1. On the Tools menu, point to Add-Ons, point to Visio Extras, and then click Database Settings.
    2. Under Database monitor settings, click to select the Automatically refresh drawing page check box.
    3. To change the default update interval, type a value in the Refresh drawing interval (secs.) box.
    4. Click OK.
