A server in a cluster may fail over when you try to view a large mailbox list on your Exchange 2000 server (832795)

- Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server
SYMPTOMSWhen you try to view a mailbox table on a computer that is running Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server and that computer is also running in a cluster environment, your computer may unexpectedly fail over.CAUSEWhen you try to view a mailbox table, a query is sent to the Active Directory directory service. The query is sent to resolve the security identifier (SID) to an account name for each mailbox in the list. If you have many mailboxes to resolve, and your network is slow, it may take a long time to resolve all the security identifiers to an account name.
While the mailbox table is being built, a lock is put on the information store database to make sure that the database is not dismounted. The lock must be put on the database so that the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service can respond to the IsAlive call that is sent by Cluster Manager. The IsAlive call makes sure that the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service is responsive. If Cluster Manager does not receive a response from the IsAlive call to the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service, the Cluster Manager assumes that the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service is unresponsive and causes the computer to fail over.RESOLUTIONTo resolve this problem, obtain the August 2004 Exchange 2000 Server Post-Service Pack 3 update rollup.
