CPU description does not appear correctly in the System Properties dialog box (832617)

SYMPTOMS

When you view the System Properties dialog box (right-click My Computer, and then click Properties), only some of the details about your CPU appear. Some characters may be missing or obscured for the properties of your CPU in the Computer area of the System Properties dialog box.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if the ProcessorNameString entry in the following registry subkey contains a very long value:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DESCRIPTION\System\CentralProcessor\0

The problem occurs because of a size restriction for the ProcessorNameString entry. This entry displays a character sequence for the properties of your CPU. For example, Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.00GHz.

Note This is a problem only with the appearance of the System Properties dialog box, and does not influence the operation of the computer.
