Software inventory processing is slow on a large Systems Management Server 2003 site (832335)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Systems Management Server 2003
SYMPTOMSIf you have a Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) 2003 site, you may experience slow software inventory processing when the following conditions are true: - The SMS database is very large. For example, the SoftwareInventory table contains millions of rows.
- The SMS site is processing a large proportion of incoming software inventory that contains updates to the file modified date.
CAUSEThis problem may occur if there is a backlog of software inventory. This backlog may occur if a large proportion of the incoming software inventory contains updates to only the file modified date. Software inventory records that contain a change to only the file modified date are processed differently than software inventory records that contain changes to other file information. For example, software inventory records are processed differently when a file is created or is deleted.RESOLUTIONTo resolve this problem, obtain and install the latest service pack for SMS 2003.
