MCMS 2002 SP1a upgrade installation may fail if sample sites are installed on the server (832032)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Content Management Server 2002 SP1a
SYMPTOMSWhen you upgrade Microsoft Content Management Server (MCMS) 2002 or MCMS 2002 Service Pack 1 (SP1) to MCMS 2002 Service Pack 1a (SP1a), some sample sites that Microsoft provides may not be correctly upgraded with the server component upgrade. You may receive the following error message: Please uninstall the MCMS Sample Site and then uninstall CMS server. You may experience this issue most frequently when you have the following sample sites installed: - WoodgroveVB
- WoodgroveIntranet
- WoodgroveInternational
CAUSEThis issue occurs because the sample data file path that is set in the registry when the sample site is installed is incorrect. For the three sample sites that are listed in the "Symptoms" section, the path of the MCMS 2002 installation directory is the following: HKLM\Software\NCompass\SampleData\<SampleSiteName> The path of the MCMS installation directory for the sites that do not have the problem is the following: HKLM\Software\NCompass\SampleData The upgrade process looks for the path in the second registry path. If the path is not set in the same place, the sample site is not upgraded correctly. RESOLUTIONTo resolve this problem, remove the sample sites before you upgrade your MCMS 2002 servers to MCMS 2002 SP1a.STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section of this article.REFERENCES
