STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

After you apply this update, Gateway for NFS can automatically mount the Network File System (NFS) shared folder that contains the target of a symbolic link if the NFS shared folder is exported from the same computer that exported the NFS shared folder that contains the symbolic link.

Notes

Following are notes about how to make sure that Gateway for NFS can mount the target shared folder.

Host both shared folders on the same NFS server

Gateway for NFS cannot automatically mount the shared folder that contains the target of the symbolic link if the shared folders are on different servers.

Do not reference a third shared folder

If the target of a symbolic link is also a symbolic link that references another target on a third NFS shared folder, Gateway for NFS cannot automatically mount the third shared folder.

New registry entry

When you apply this update, the following new registry entry is set to 1 to enable this feature:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Client for NFS\CurrentVersion\Users\Default\Defaults\ MountSymlinkTargetShare

To disable this feature, set this registry entry to zero (0), and then stop and restart Gateway for NFS. When the registry entry is set to zero, Gateway for NFS behaves as before the update was applied. That is, Gateway for NFS does not traverse symbolic links across shared folders.
