SYMPTOMS

When you resume your Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2004-based computer from standby, you may receive the following error message:
Media Center Tray Applet has encountered a problem and needs to close.

CAUSE

You may receive this error message if you put your computer in standby while the computer is recording Live TV.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, restart your computer.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section of this article.

If you try to put your computer in standby while the computer is recording Live TV, you are prompted to stop recording Live TV before before the computer enters standby. This message is designed to help you not to lose a recording accidently.
