You can configure the method that Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 uses to resolve Microsoft Exchange Server names. You can configure Outlook 2003 to use any of the following methods to resolve server names when Outlook 2003 starts:
  • Fully Qualified Domain Names (FQDNs) and then NetBIOS names.
  • FQDNs only.
  • NetBIOS names only.
Note By default, Outlook 2003 resolves server names by using FQDNs first and then NetBIOS names second.

To change the method that Outlook 2003 uses to resolve server names when it starts, follow these steps.

  1. Click Start, and then click Run.
  2. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
  3. Locate and then click the following registry key:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\RPC

  4. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
  5. Type FQDNFailover as the value name, and then press ENTER.
  6. On the Edit menu, click Modify.
  7. In the Value data box, type one of the following values, depending on how you want Outlook 2003 to resolve server names:
    • Type 0 to use FQDNs and then NetBIOS.
    • Type 1 to use FQDNs only.
    • Type 2 to use NetBIOS name only.
  8. Click OK, and then quit Registry Editor.
