Characters Repeat Several Times in a Remote Desktop Session (831521)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Virtual PC 2004
SYMPTOMSAfter you start Remote Desktop (a session that connects to the console of a remote computer running Windows Server 2003) from a virtual machine in Microsoft Virtual PC 2004,
when you type characters, they appear several times in the Remote Desktop
session window.CAUSEThis problem occurs because your computer is
experiencing a heavy CPU load or has a slow network
connection. When you press a key in these cases, the Remote Desktop session
interprets it as though you are pressing and holding down the key so that the character repeats one or more
times.WORKAROUNDTo work around this problem, reduce the character
repeat rate in the guest operating system. To do so, follow these steps: - Click the virtual machine in the Virtual PC
Console dialog box, and then click Start.
- Log on to your virtual machine.
- Click Start, and then click
Control Panel.
- Double-click Keyboard.
- Move the Repeat delay slider to the left
to increase the delay before the character repeats.
- Move the Repeat rate slider to the left to
reduce the speed that the character repeats.
- Click OK, and then close the Control
Panel window.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a bug in the Microsoft
