Dynamic Resize Does Not Redraw the Guest Operating System Display Screen (831520)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Virtual PC 2004

SYMPTOMS

While you are using Microsoft Virtual PC 2004, if you press the Windows logo key + L key combination to lock your virtual machine, and then resize the virtual machine window, the guest operating system display screen does not resize to match the virtual machine window after you unlock the virtual machine. As a result, there is an empty area at the lower right side of the display screen.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the following conditions are true:
  • The guest operating system is Microsoft Windows XP.
  • Because of the settings for the virtual machine, you can resize the display screen dynamically.
When you lock a virtual machine, you do not lock the Virtual PC 2004 window that contains the virtual machine display screen.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, resize the window back to the display screen size. The window moves back in position when you do this. Afterward, you can dynamically resize the window to a larger or smaller size.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section of this article.
