Network Adapter Does Not Obtain an IP Address in Shared Networking Mode (831516)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Virtual PC 2004
SYMPTOMSWhen you configure Microsoft Virtual PC Virtual Machine
to use Shared networking (NAT) mode, the network adapter does not automatically
obtain an IP address that is in the 192.168.131.* range. Instead, your adapter
continues to use a previously configured IP address. CAUSEThis issue may occur when the following conditions are
true: - Your virtual machine has Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 installed.
- The process of switching your virtual machine to Shared
networking (NAT) mode was not completed successfully.
RESOLUTIONTo resolve this issue, use the ipconfig command to release
and then renew the IP address of your virtual machine. To do so, follow these steps:
- On your Windows NT 4.0 virtual machine, click
Start, click Run, type ipconfig
/release, and then click OK.
- Click Start, click Run,
type ipconfig /renew, and then click OK
STATUSMicrosoft
has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed
in the "Applies to" section of this article.
