SYMPTOMS

Your Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0 Terminal Server Edition-based computer may stop unexpectedly during shutdown or when you log off the computer, and the following error message appears on a blue screen:
A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer...
Technical information:

*** STOP: 0x00000050 (0xParameter_1, 0xParameter_2, 0xParameter_3, 0xParameter_4)
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
Note The four parameters in this error message may vary depending on the cause of the Stop error.

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that this article describes. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.
