Visio2002: Event ID 5044 "Unable to Read MIB File" When You Use VENT AutoDiscovery and Layout Solution (831318)

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Visio 2002, when you use the Microsoft Visio Enterprise Network Tools (VENT) AutoDiscovery and Layout solution, the following event appears in the application event log when the discovery engine starts:Event ID: 5044
Description: Unable to read MIB file.

CAUSE

This behavior may occur if you installed Visio 2002 on top of Microsoft Visio 2000, and some files were corrupted during the upgrade process.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, follow these steps:
  1. Use the Add or Remove Programs tool in Control Panel to remove Visio 2002, VENT, and the SQL Server Desktop Engine (also known as MSDE 2000).
  2. Restart your computer.
  3. Reinstall the programs.
