You cannot access your mailbox and event ID 7031 is logged in the application event log in Exchange 2000 Server (831276)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to use your e-mail client to connect to your Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server computer, you may not be able to access your mailbox.

When you view the application event log on the Exchange 2000 server, you see events that are similar to the following: Event Type: Error
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event Category: None
Event ID: 7031
Date: Date
Time: Time
User: N/A
Computer: Computer_Name
Description: The Microsoft Exchange Information Store service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this Number time(s). The following corrective action will be taken in 0 milliseconds: No action.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if the information store on your Exchange 2000 computer has crashed. The information store may crash if a rule on one of the mailboxes in the information store has been corrupted.

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Exchange 2000 Server service pack that contains this hotfix.
