First Run Wizard does not run after you restore the Windows XP Media Center 2004 operating system (831271)

SYMPTOMS

If you restore your Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2004-based computer to a point before you ran the Media Center First Run Wizard, and then start Media Center, the First Run Wizard does not run and the Program Guide has not been configured.

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, you must manually configure your Internet connection, the TV signal, and the Program Guide Setup.

To setup your Internet connection by using the Media Center Remote, follow these steps:
  1. Press START on the remote, and then select Settings.
  2. Select General.
  3. Select Internet connection.
  4. Follow the directions that appear on the screen to set up your Internet connection.
To set up your TV signal by using the Media Center Remote, follow these steps: :
  1. Press START on the remote, and then select Settings.
  2. Select General.
  3. Select TV signal.
  4. Follow the directions that appear on the screen to set up your TV signal.
To set up your Program Guide by using the Media Center Remote, follow these steps:
  1. Press START on the remote, and then select Settings.
  2. Select General.
  3. Select Guide setup, and then select Change lineup.
  4. Follow the directions that appear on the screen to select a new channel lineup.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section of this article.
