The modem wakes the computer from hibernate when the wake option is turned off (831267)

SYMPTOMS

The modem that is installed in a Windows XP Media Center Edition computer may wake the computer from the Hibernate state every time the telephone rings. This problem occurs even if you have turned off the modem's wake option and the wake on ring settings in the computer BIOS.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because some modems do not work correctly with the softmodem driver.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, test your modem and modem driver to make sure that this problem does not occur with Windows XP Media Center Edition. If the problem does occur, install a modem that works correctly in your Windows XP Media Center Edition computer.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Windows XP Media Center Edition.
