You may experience expiration issues, memory leaks, or other problems when you host an NNTP virtual server on your Windows 2000-based server (831185)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Server
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server

SYMPTOMS

When you host an NNTP virtual server on your Microsoft Windows 2000-based server, you may experience one or more of the following behaviors.
  • If you rebuild a hash table on an NNTP virtual server that has been offline or otherwise disconnected from the network, the article time in the hash table is stamped with the rebuild time. This behavior may cause items that should have expired to remain on the server.
  • When you configure multiple sink events, the NNTP service may experience a memory leak. This memory leak eventually consumes all available memory resources.
  • If you have a third-party onpost event sink configured, the NNTP service may stop responding when that event sink rejects a message.
