You cannot keep the previous versions of Visio when you use the Office 2003 Custom Installation Wizard to customize the installation of Visio 2003 (831177)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Office Visio Professional 2003
- Microsoft Office Visio Standard 2003
SYMPTOMSWhen you run Setup from the Microsoft Office Visio 2003
CD-ROM to install Visio 2003 on a computer that has a previous version of
Microsoft Visio installed, Setup prompts you to either remove or to keep all
previous versions of Visio. However, when you use the Microsoft Office 2003
Custom Installation Wizard (CIW) to create a Microsoft Windows Installer
transform (.mst file) to customize the installation of Visio 2003, there is no
option that you can configure to keep all previous versions of Visio. When you
deploy Visio 2003 to users in your organization by using the transform, any
previous versions of Visio that are installed on the user's computer are
removed.CAUSEThis issue occurs because the Remove Previous
Versions page of the Office 2003 CIW is not available when you use
the Office 2003 CIW to create a transform to customize the installation of
Visio 2003. By default, Setup removes any previous versions of Visio that are
installed on the computer when you run Setup with the transform to install
Visio 2003.WORKAROUNDTo work around this issue, when you create the transform,
add a new Setup property on the Modify Setup Properties page
of the Office 2003 CIW. Use the following name and value for the new Setup
property: Name: REMOVEALLPREVIOUS Value: keep After you add this Setup property to the transform, previous
versions of Visio are not removed from the computer when you run Setup with the
transform to install Visio 2003. To add the Setup property to the transform,
follow these steps:
- Start the Office 2003 CIW.
- On the Custom Installation Wizard page,
click Next.
- On the Open the MSI File page, specify the
name and the path of the Visio .msi file that you want to open , and then click
Next.
- On the Open the MST File page, either
click Open an existing MST file and specify the name and the
path of an existing .mst file, or click Create a new MST file
to create a new .mst file, and then click Next.
- Continue through the pages of the CIW, specifying the
options that you want until the Modify Setup Properties page
appears on the screen.
Note The Modify Setup Properties page is page 14 of
15 in the CIW. - On the Modify Setup Properties page, click
Add.
- In the Add/Modify Property Value dialog
box, in the Name box, type
REMOVEALLPREVIOUS, in the Value box,
type keep, and then click
OK.
- Click Next, and then on the Save
Changes page, click Finish.
- Click Exit.
Note When more than one version of Visio is installed on your
computer, each time that you start a different version of Visio on your
computer, you receive a message that Microsoft Windows is configuring
Visio.
